David, Good explanation. My problem is that I have damaged hearing and cannot detect the ping of pre-detonation from other engine noises, although I do know what it is suppposed to sound like! However, my car does tend to run on a bit when warmed up (not overheated). Does this also always indicate over-advanced ignition? Guy > attempt to lug the car by accelerating from a low RPM. If it doesn't ping, > stop, and advance the timing slightly. Repeat this procedure until the car > pings, then back it off slightly. > David Riker |
