Castrol LMA is not mineral based, it is glycol ether base. Says so, right on
Castrols LMA MSDS

If you wish to learn about brake fluid constituents and category breakdowns,
you can read a nice summary here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_fluid
Notice that glycol ether fluids are not mineral based.

The original question asked stated, "I bought a nice brake MC from Triumphs
Only several years back", not half a century ago when DOT2 fluids (which
castor oil brake fluid was) where the standard. The shop's remembered claim
that LMA is vegetable based is wrong, and was wrong at the time it was
given.

History of Castrol can be read here

It is best to read the history and documentation. Guesses are frequently
not correct, regardless of how enthusiastically they are believed.
