I Have tried several brands, and configurations of these with differing
numbers of LED's and the main problem that I have found, aside from the
fact that a standard flasher won't work with them (must use a solid state
one) is that the older light housings were designed to reflect a lot of the
light that the bulb puts out, so it didn't really matter all that much
which way the bulb went in - The LED type are VERY directional, and since
all the light is more or less straight out from the "bulb", the reflectors
are of very little or no use. If the lamp is mounted vertical to the
ground (as it is in some of my tail lamps, my MKIII Spitfire), then it's
almost useless - and as a side note, they only appear brighter in a very
narrow viewing angle usually straight back (which on our cars is much lower
than most SUVs' out there), conventional bulbs are really more noticeable
from a wider viewing angle especially in housing that are designed to
reflect that light - so I switched back to conventional bulbs in all my
cars and my truck. For what it's worth, in the limited testing that I did,
I found them to be much less visible in most viewing conditions - at least
with our vehicles-
It's too bad since I really liked the idea of an almost burnout proof lamp!
