To go with the string back gloves, the 'driving shoes' are also a
pre-requisite. These were slip-ons with the rubber of the heel extending up
the back of the shoe to prevent scuffing on carpets. Greatly facilitated
heel-and-toeing in the best boy racer traditions and complemented the tweed
cap worn at the other end of the body.
Add to this a wardrobe, a string vest under a nylon drip-dry shirt and
chequered or chrome tape down the side of the car.
Why hasn't anyone mentioned the fanny frills (aka mini-skirts) and hot-pants
yet? They're an integral part of this time-warp
