As noted, they're also sometimes call "Air Horns","Ram
pipes", and "Stub Stacks" (the short ones).
As Jeff noted, the ones we usually see are the ones
commonly appearing on AC cobras with webers. VB sells
them! ($15 ea? I forget)
Anyhow, most you see are WAY too big to fit under our
more common pancake filters. And you do NOT want to
run a car without a filter. A hampster runs across
your wheel well, and voila! it's now a permanent part
of your siezed engine. And like-wise from all of the
dirt and dust that our cars kick-up.
There are warnings in the VB catalog that they are for
show or race. So park it, put em on. and before you
start it up, pull them back off and put the air
filters back on.
The stub stacks (Short ones) are fine as they fit
inside.

Because they, in theory, increase CFM by reducing
tubulance, they may make your carbs run leaner than
normal, and may require an adjustment if not a needle
change.
I don't understand why, if it's such a good thing to
not have that sharp lip, that SU didn't just Radius
the end of the venturi intake right on the carb. But
that's just me questioning the laws of physics and
engineering again.
