Bob,
we did our own carpeting in our Spit.
We purchased excellent quality automotive carpeting. The backing of regular
carpet is too stiff to work with. We also wanted the colour black, not
easily available, except in automotive.
We glued, cut and moulded it wherever possible. This was not an easy job,
when you want it looking good. I was ready to give up several times, but
glad I persisted. Especially tricky was the area around the transmission
tunnel where we formed the carpet by cutting into it, then gluing it down.
Having a soft backing of the carpet is especially crucial for this
particular job.
The floor matting was cut to size, and we then had an automotive upholsterer
edge it for us. This was not expensive, but it gives the whole carpet job a
professional and clean look. We didn't bother with heel patches.
Hopes this helps.
Cheers
Liv
