Thanks everyone for the information on the overdrive.
Just got to weight up my options now, overdrive would be a great addition
to my Spit - but it all depends on timing and circumstances to wether or
not I can afford the time or money to fit it. Preferably I'd like to stick
the overdrive in when I put the new engine in. But Ive got to afford the
engine first.
Either that - or perhaps I'll get myself a Capri (yeah yeah Essex!...) or
a Cortina.... something along those lines... I would of course prefer to
"keep it real" and get a Dolly, but the 1500 isn't exactly going to be
much better than my Spit! The 1850 is notorious, and the sprint is going
to cost me too much - not to mention the insurers would laugh at me.
Then again, thats going to still cost as much... but there is the
"comfort" and "safety" - at least the perceived safety - of motorway
driving in something bigger than a Spit.
To comment on the whole OD versus non-OD regards economy - 1) with OD it's
a bit quieter and more refined - despite the alleged decrease in mpg - and
2) with OD there is less wear on the engine - which means that it should
do more miles.
