All,
After much fiddling (and a bit of luck) I finally found I had a (not
quite) dead fuel pump. Extremely frustrating . It would work fine for a
couple days, then die. Work a couple days & die. Ad infinitum. Finally
with my wife's help I found there was no fuel being delivered to the
carb. Got a new electric pump and presto, no more problem. So I take a
nice long drive (100 miles or so) and promptly upon arriving back in
Corvallis, Lucas strikes again! I now have a wonderful GM 7127
alternator which works infinitely better! The alternator swap is pretty
straightforward and I would highly recommend the instructions on Paul
Tegler's web site. Had I read that one first I would have saved myself
an entire day.
I once again have a running Spit and all is good with the world!
