Hello All -
Thought I'd take a moment to re-introduce myself. It's been several years
since I last communicated with everyone. My name's Dirk and I own a green '78
1500 (FM72245) that's been though some rather interesting history of repaints
(I think) and emissions hacks before it landed in my lap.
I bought her from a friend who frequented wholesale car auctions about four
years ago. At a time when I didn't know what to do with my life she went from
Michigan to San Francisco, CA and back to Michigan via car hauler with me. I
think she was happiest doing the 70 mph north and south bound HWY 280 runs
between San Jose and San Francisco. The cool, humid air treated her right from
a performance point of view, but I think the salty air didn't help the surface
and frame rust that's showing up now.
I redid all the carpet and re-upholstered the seats with new foam and fabric,
along with new door and rear cockpit panels. So far, I've been reluctant to
tackle anything but the most elementary mechanical repair (like replacing a
spark plug) due to the lack of adequate workspace. I live in an apartment, and
they don't like us working on our vehicles out in the open. (I'm getting ready
to build a house, and of course the only requirement I have is that the house
have a four bay pole barn - two to disassemble, one to reassemble, and one with
a drain and air changing capability for a spray booth.)
For the time being - my list of to do items include fining out why:
1) turn signals don't work at all
2) tail light on right side is dimmer than left
3) sometimes I have to jiggle the starter solenoid before she'll turn over...
Seeing a pattern here? Electrical problems and me don't get along. Oh well,
guess I should find that voltmeter...
Anyway, nice to be back, reading about everyone's good times. Anyone out there
from the Lansing area? I know there's a lister in Brighton...and a British Car
Club somewhere around here.
Regards,
Dirk
