Hi,

I seem to remember seeing a thread about this within the last few weeks.
Unfortunately at the time I didn't pay any attention as I was behind in
reading the list and was not having the problem at the time.

My 1980 Spitfire is running out of power at about 3500 rpm. It doesn't really
sound as if it is missing, but it doesn't sound quite right and the poser is
gone. I can't get it over 4000 rpm.

It has twin hs4's. Which I tried adjusting. The rpm's increase slightly when
I lift the pistons. They seem to be in sync.

I installed new spark plugs, fuel filter, checked the timing. The wires are
about a year old. It has the pertronix ignition.

I am getting a new coil, dist. cap and rotor to put on.

One other thing, although the mixture seems to be right according to the
piston lift test, it smells rich to my nose. I did not pull the spark plugs
last night due to my energy level and time last night after the test drive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Roger Elliott
