Just thought I'd post a quick progress report for my Herald... Only about a
year behind schedule at this point, but getting closer every day!
(Gotta be quick, then off to drudgery. er, work...)
The body just has a little finish up sanding before repaint, as well as the
caulking of seams, etc.
The engine is finished, and I had thought the transmission done, but she
refused to shift into second. Turns out(upon tear down again) that the "Master
Groove" on the 1-2 synchro was improperly located, and the detent pin was doing
its thing, but to the wrong spot. So the gearbox came apart, and got put
together right...There is a lot of play, btw, in these synchros- but it appears
to be correct!(about 1/8" movement of the hub on splines) I also managed to
slice my thumbnail in the process, and had to cut it way back. Ow. But, now it
shifts more properly... Just have to build new gaskets to replace the nice
factory ones destroyed in the teardown. D**n.
My front suspension is all back together, just waiting to be mounted as a unit
to the frame, as are the rear axles and diffy. Everything happy clean and
rebuilt.
Interior is pretty much on the shelf, just have to finish the rear seat.
A little more work, and she'll be cruising.
