Well folks I have realized that LBCs are not for me.
I thought I would enjoy working on the car but have
found I dont. So here is a really good opportunity
for someone who can work on a Spit and would like to
have a great Spit in the end, but without all the
expense. If you want to put a car together the way
you would like to, then this would be a car for you.
It is a red 73 1500. The car ran fine before the
engine died from a cracked head and burnt valves. I am
having the engine rebuilt by Ted Schumacher of TSI.
The engine is having a complete rebuild ($1300). I
also have for this car a model j overdrive
transmission from a parts car; complete with drive
shaft. This transmission seems to be good. It came
from a 76 car with 50K miles on the odometer, and
which was severely rusted body and frame. We tore down
the engine and it is clear that the engine failed,
rather than the trans, which makes me more hopeful
that the OD tranny is good.
The frame on this car is solid, with no rust though
there is some slight rust on the front fenders.
Otherwise, the body and frame appear to be in fine
shape.
The car has a new rear spring and Monroe air
adjustable shocks. It has a larger radiator that I had
pressure tested and put in the car. The tires are in
very good shape and will come with two spares. The
convertible top is in very good shape. I have a very
nice black new old stock soft top cover that I
purchased off E-bay. The car is in Northwest Ohio. If
someone is interested, they are welcome to come look
at it. I could deliver it to a person who does not
live too far away for the gas money involved. I live
in Ohio about one hour from Mid Ohio and just 7 miles
from Ted Schumacher.
This car would also come with manuals (Haynes and
Bentley) and a number of additional spare parts
including a windshield, two trunk lids, engine block,
additional starter, generator etc. Additional parts
could be available for a few extra dollars. The parts
include an instrument cluster and differential. I have
in the neighborhood of $4200 invested, though I will
take $2,800. I can be reached at 419-358-5922 or
358-3288 or via email. Photos are available, if youd
like.
