I'm going to chalk this one down to one of the many differences between US
and European models. It Probably had something to do with US crash tests/
safety regulations etc...
If you've got a late model US spec Spitfire without the bar - I'd probably
seriously look to see if the door(s) have been replaced with one from a MKIV
or early 1500
Anyhow, my 2 cents worth anyway
