Hooray! I bought my very first car toady! A 1977 Spitfire in Pimento Red.
It goes like a dream - lovely smooth ride.
Had to drive it back along the M25 (The London Orbital) - anybody who knows
this motorway knows this was certianly a baptism by fire. Especially having
never really properly driven an old car before. And being very much used to
modern luxurys such as power steering et al. I was completly scared to begin
with. But by the time I got home I pretty much felt at home with it (sorry for
the pun)
Anyway, thats got the excited bit all out of the way.
The accelerator pedal is a bit "notchy" - no make that very notchy. Its
proving quite difficult to drive with it like this - its either all or nothing
for pulling away - which must be wearing the poor clutch out. Anything
specifically common to do to the spitfire to solve this?
I have a feeling its either - kink in accelerator cable or tube. or the
connection to the carbs needs oiling.
I hope you'll forgive my ignorance on this sort of thing. The spit is my
"learning about mechanical stuff" car.
