Liik down through the filler neck.  It's a straight shot!

Blockage somewhere in the line.  Filter?  Or perhaps the float bowl?

Certainly!  Check for spark during one of these episodes.

Yes.  check the float bowl for crud.  Also check the needle and seat assembly 
for proper action.
