Hi Ben,

Everyone complains about how ugly the bumpers are on the
1500-whether they're chrome or all black rubber.

As someone who has been rear ended in each of her 3 Spitfire 1500s
-including a month ago-I can tell you: They're ugly, but they're
there for a reason. This last one, if I had taken off the black
rubber and the chrome over rider to make it "prettier" like a
MKIV, I probably wouldn't have much of a car right now. As it was,
not a dent or a ding or anything but a bad head ache.

Some people say, "Well, I'd rather have it look pretty and sleek
and besides, who's going to hit me?" The little old lady at the
grocery store, backing out her tank-and into the trunk of your
beloved Spitfire. The idiot behind you who figures at a red light
that because you're driving a spiffy little sportscar, you're
probably not going to be bothered with red lights-and rear ends
you. (As happened to me last month on the corner of Roscoe and
Reseda in the Valley.)

Like the (Saturn) commercial says-*You* can be the poster child
for the DMV, but what about everyone else around you? And that's
why 1500s have ugly black rubber thingys and ugly over riders.

JMHO and sad experience speaking.
