Nope. I went with a regular 1500 transmission. After much
discussion, driving, 'research' and thought, I decided that I
really do like my car the way it is! And it really does drive
wonderfully. (It's not exactly stock, you know.) Also, all the
stories I hear about o/d not working etc. put me off. (A friend of
mine has this problem-he loves it when it works-when being the
operative word.)
The regular transmission was a tight enough fit as it was. And
when I brought up the "to o/d or not to o/d" question with the guy
who put it in-and works on *A LOT* of Spitfires and LBCs, he
thought that my choice was good and sensible.
Actually, I ended up paying not a dime for this operation. A
friend had a very old (circa 1960) o/d transmission that's been
gathering dust under his workbench for years and very kindly gave
it to me. I traded it for a regular transmission-and a clutch-and
the installation!
So, I'm a very happy camper indeed and am really quite happy with
my choice to not go to o/d.

I got mine Saturday!
Laura G. and "Nigel" (Who drove so beautifully the 40+ miles home
from the Triumph club meeting tonight-I think I'll treat him to a
bath and polish tomorrow!)
