Barking up the wrong tree....
The input shaft is centralized in the crankshaft by a bushing, so what you're
seeing is irrelevant. Clean the splines if they're dirty or rusty, light oil
coating (wd40) can help a little but is optional.
Check the clutch hydraulics, master and slave cylinder.
Check the hinge pin on the throwout arm in the bell housing. These wear and
even fall out.
If it used to work fine and is now a problem, perhaps renewing the clutch
plate, disk and throwout as a final try.
