Went and looked at this car last week. It's a pretty nice, decent
running, 77 Spitfire.
The lady that owns it has been keeping it in a barn (instead of a
garage) since she bought it in 1987. The body is very rust free, though
it has some dings from what looks like barn things bonking it. The
frame does have some rot at least on the right rear outrigger. Top is
pretty shot, window rubber and such is pretty well gone. But the car
does run and drive nicely.
She's not looking to make a fortune on the car. She'll probably sell it
for around $1500 or so. She's not really sure she wants to sell it, but
she figures that since she hardly ever drives it these days, it would be
better to turn it over to someone who knows Spitfires and will use and
enjoy it. She's got her head on straight, so she's under no illusions
about her car being a priceless treasure or in cherry condition. But
she also knows it's not trash.
This is not my car, nor do I have any vested interest in it. I simply
got to know them because they ran a foot race by my house and saw some
of my Spitfires sitting out front. I'm not buying the car because I
don't have a place for it inside, and I've got enough on my plate
already. I told her I'd post it to some of the Spitfire groups and such
to help her find a decent and real buyer for it.
Her name is Monica, her phone number is (301) 349-2777. She lives over
in Montgomery County near Rt 27&355.
