John,
At the risk of sounding brash (not intentional I assure you) may I ask why?
I'm not implying you not capable at all, since I don't know you
personally, but the reason I ask is that you won't be getting any stronger
a differential, and the ratio will be pretty tall for even a slightly
modified Spitfire and especially for a stock or near stock 72 Spitfire (I
had one, I know). If you want a (slightly) stronger diff you'll have to
replace it with a 76 or later one, and If you just want the ratio you'd be
just as well off to replace the whole diff with the GT6 one. Carriers are
different between the two units and swapping them won't be possible if just
using the castings and not the associated gears and bearings that go with
them. Besides either way you'll have to set up the mesh pattern, not a job
for the faint hearted - Now I'm not saying you can't do this sort of thing,
but there is a LOT more to it than just swapping a bunch of parts around,
especially if you want the unit to last - I'm just not sure what you want
achieve while doing all this potentially unnecessary work - Just trying to
save you a little trouble and possibly a lot of grief.
