hey instead of running these hoses through the vent box (I am not sure of
the efficiency of that one) or through the firewall (really don't like the
thought of that), why not run the vent hoses back and have them exit right
into the transmission cover. we really only need small hoses ( I don't need
a hurricane) maybe 1" to 2"s and they could wrap around the back of the
engine and you could get small scoops mounted to the tunnel cover.

The heater air box intake is located at the base of
the windshield, a high pressure area, so this ought to
be a good place to take air. But this air has also
already passed over the length of the hood, and
probably gained some heat.
I was thinking a flexible air tube, run from the very
front of the car. It could run right into the heater
air box. Borrow a greenlee punch to cut the hole, then
pop rivet a flange for the tube to fit onto. Secure it
with a big cable clamp. The cool ram air at the front
would have nice velocity. Use some insulated air
conditioning duct to avoid heat pickup, tywrap it in
place.
A cable operated flapper could close the vent on cold
or wet days.
