Michael, I would suggest using a Lotus Elan engine. They are nothing more than a Ford Courtina block with a twin cam Lotus crossflow head installed. They are very durable, and are capable off making a lot of HP. It is small enough to fit underneath the Spitfire bonnet with no modification. These engines use the Courtina gearbox also, and they are comparable in size to the Spitfire gearbox, but much more durable. My two cents. John C. Smith 75 Spitfire "Bad Mojo" |
