Joe,
I consider the Spitfire a toy or a hobby car, not a dependable, inexpensive
form of transportation. You can find more dependable cars, for a lot less,
just not as much fun. Remember that the car is 26 years old, and more than
likely costs twice as much as a small American or Japanese car from the half
its age. My Spit has never left me stranded, but I have more than $6K
invested in it and a truck to get me through the bad weather days. I also
have a garage full of tools.
I know this will get me flamed, but you asked for sensible advise.
