I believe recommendations for a 175/70 13 tire are 4.5"-6" rims, so the
1970 and later Spitfire rims are ok. Meanwhile, 175/70 is about the
maximum width for a 4.5" wheel.

I don't know as it's dangerous, but I agree that a 165/80 tire probably is
a bit taller than desired.

Probably one could go 26 front/30 rear with ease -- more for high speed or
for events such as autocross.
