LTL carriers just love people to ship stuff when they don't know what's
going on.
The discounts thrown out by trucking companies range from 40% to 60%.
You need to check out the class of the freight also. I ship wire all over
the world and it goes class 60.
The best thing for you to do is find someone who has a lot of freight going
in and out and see if the company will let you pay them for the freight and
have the trucking company charge them.
I have a freight bill from a company call R&L Gator for 2,311 lbs that
shipped from Bremen Indiana to Saint Petersburg Florida.
The total amount was $1,017.07 with a discount of 50%, my customers adjusted
invoice was $508.52. I had it changed to a prepaid and add and charged the
freight to my company and the charge for the same freight was $326.00 !
So shop around.

Go to your local truck shop, there should be a bulliten board with notes on
it from truck drivers. There is always a truck driver willing to carry
something extra along a route he is traveling, and usually pretty
reasonable. This is very common practice for them.

Subject: Help: Hardtop shipping
Fellow Spitfire Listers,
I need your help. I must arrange shipping of a hardtop
from Kansas City to Orlando. It's crated, ready to go.
Anyone who has shipped one of these, what carrier did
you use, and how much did it cost?
For the money one carrier quoted, I could buy an
airline ticket for the top and fly it here.
(wheelchair to ramp B, for passenger Hardtop)
I'm not in a hurry to get the top (I've got more time
than money).
Any advice or suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks,
Carter Shore
