It would probably take me 4 hours...

If it is an overdrive car, it is very hard to unbolt the front
end of the shaft without having to get at it from above.

Also, you have to remove the exhaust.

One other possible reason:  The garage doesn't really want to bother with
the job (they're all booked up with easier stuff on newer cars).

By the way, if you replace both joints, it would be worthwhile to
have the shaft re-balanced, since any imbalance is really obvious on a Spitfire.
