Because in order to take it off and put it back on again, all you have
to do is remove the flange, not both the flange bolts and the bolts that
hold the straps on. As you probably already know, the strap type
collapses somewhat when the straps are removed, enabling the flange to
come away from its mating surface on the differential. The sliding
joint does this without having to remove anything but the flange bolts
(4 rather than 8)
