I agree with the others that answered you question about the bendix
not sliding out. However, I don't necessarily agree that it will require
a starter replacement.
On my 67 Spit that I bought in 67, this used to happen all the time.
I would just pull the starter, clean the bendix and the spiral grove with
varasol and put the starter back. This would last for 3 to 6 mo. before
I would have to do it again. I never replaced the starter, just cleaned it.
