OK, a month ago I addressed the list with a noise problem which most
concluded was likely a piston problem, either slap or wrist pin failure.
Well, I dug #4 out of the block today. Oh Wise Ones, you were right,
the skirt on the right hand side is severely scored with apparent heat
marks outside the scored area.
Now, the bore has visible marks all the way up, but only in the very
bottom of the bore can you feel anything messed up.
So, what do I do, and what can I avoid doing.
The big question, of course, is whether the bore is salvageable, and
how.
The piston I can probably replace. It is only about 5000 miles old. it
is stamped as an AE brand. I think I can get one from the place that
sold me all this stuff to begin with.
But, how about sizing? When I had the block machined, I supplied the
pistons for exact bore matching. What am I going to run into on a
random replacement?
Also, I had everything balanced. So I guess I weigh my piston and have
him send me one close or heavier, and I can get it matched.
Where do I go from here?

BTW, this is in the Kent motor in the Consul Capri, but I guess all the
answers are the same for most motors.
