I've read somewhere for certain that the cowl bracing is there to prevent the
dreaded "Scuttle Shake", and the accompanying metal fatigue.
I've removed the padding on mine and I'm in the process of polishing the
aluminum. Padding is for sissies and the easily bruised! It looks pretty trick!
