Yesterday I made it home with Tiny Tim, My latest addition to my growing
Spitfire Family. After unloading him, I began doing some exploring and
found that some things don't agree with what John Thomason says in his
book. So in the interest of clarity, I an doing a survey to ascertain
when changes were done during the manufacturing process of this series.
So, I ask all Mk1 owners to check their cars and see how they are
configured: I have provided the following checklist to help. If you
could fill in the blanks and EMAIL the results back, I will compile it
and report the results back to the list.
1. Commission Number:
2. Does the Stainless Seam Finisher on the rear Wings go all the way to
the door opening or stop approximately 1-3/4" short of the opening?
3. If the finisher in "2" is short. does the "B" post aluminum finisher
extend out to fir between the stainless trim and the door opening?
4. Does the Washer bottle have a brass fitting at the top, or is it all
plastic?
5. Does the washer bottle attaching bracket secure with one screw or
two?
6. Is there a drain pipe in the Heater air box or a hole with a rubber
flap covering it?
7. To the Tach and Speedometer cables run under the Air box or through
access holes cut into it?
8. Is there a metal channel welded to the top of the door sill to hold
a piece of rubber to seal from water coming in?
9. Are there access holes in the rear lower valance through which the
lower bumper bracket passes. Or is the bracket routed under the
bodywork?
10. Does the Inside rear view mirror have a black or chromed stem?
11. Does the car have a radiator Header tank mounted on top of the
intake manifold?
If any of these questions are unclear, please don't hesitate to inform
me and I will clarify.
Regards,
Joe
