IMHO, those 225 ES100s would have performed a LOT better with some 7.5-8.0"
rims.
I learned the value of properly-sized rims with the 911, and I took a chance
with the 225 ES100s. They were OK for the street, but had funky track
handling unless the pressure was way up, which I purely attribute to the
too-narrow rim.
Yeah, they looked good for 225s on slicers, but.....that's like saying Star
Jones looks good in a roomful of women looking like Rosie....

They look silly? What makes you say that? I thought the SZ50's I had on my
95 and the ES100's on my/your 94 looked great in 225/55 (better than the
215/60 it calls for IMO)? And frankly, they handled great too!
