I'd be cautious with a factory rack, depending on the type of car. On my
Sable wagon I recall that the load rating wasn't all that high given that
the aerodynamic loads on a canoe going 60+ mph could easily exceed the
canoe's weight (I would think).
I'd suggest looking at what companies like Yakima and Thule sell for holding
canoes on their rack systems.
