I totally agreed with Eric on this. The newer speed control phase converters
(what is their real name?) are great. They adjust the number of cycles per
second to adjust the speed.

I don't know for sure, but I'd bet that's significantly more
expensive than the $2-500 it'll cost for a decent 3ph converter...
plus the better ones of those will let you adjust the speed of
the 3ph equipment its driving, or even reverse it.
Some people on the mill-drill list are even replacing their 1ph motors
with 3ph motors plus converters so they can set speed electronically
and not have to mess with belts.
