I bought my (Miller) plasma cutter from Great Lakes Airgas in Waukegan IL. 
The have other branches throughout the Chicago area. Their price was 
competitive with mail order. I get my MIG gas tanks refilled there so they 
treated me like a repeat customer and took a lot of time to help me decide 
on a model.

Get yourself an electronic welding helmet to go with your welder. They're 
quite cheap now and they make life much easier.
