When I installed my NEC computer I could not get the modem to
work although my old computer modem worked fine.  After replacing
4 modems we found out that the modem in the NEC was polarity
sensitive and when we finally switched the phone wires the modem
worked fine.  So if you have a computer on this new line and a modem
problem check the polarity before replacing the modem!
