I have the four post lift from Cytech and am quite happy with it. I
initially bought
the four post because I perfer to have my car sitting on its wheels rather
than worrying about where to place the lift pads on the frame.
It turns out that the majority of work on the car can be done quite easily
with the car on the ramps. For the times when I need to take the weight
off of the wheels, I bought the jacking bridge.
I chose the Cytech because the space between the ramps was
a bit closer together. My MG and Healey both have rather narrow
tracks. The other reason for choosing the Cytech is that the
frame which goes up and down rides inside of the posts so that you
do not risk getting grease on your clothing from the posts.
The most difficult part of the installation was getting the lift off of the
truck
when they delivered it. The whole thing weighed about 1600 # and we
had to uncrate it on the truck and take it off, one piece at a time. The
ramps
where VERY heavy. My son and I did this by ourselves while the driver
watched. Two more people or a fork lift would have been helpfull.
Once off the truck, I moved the ramps with my boat trailer. Actual
assembly was quite easy, but two floor jacks were quite helpful.
Mine is steady enough that I have not bolted it to the floor. If you have
to
drill holes in your garage floor for anchor bolts, you may find the
installation
more difficult unless you know some tricks that I do not know.
One issue on the Cytech lift: There are safety latches on each corner of
the lift which catch like ratchets on blocks welded to the posts. The
mechanism
which releases these latches so that you can lower the ramps is controlled
by
a long rod which runs under one of the ramps. If you install your lift, as
I did,
with the hydraulic pump next to your garage doors, you may not have enough
room to thread this rod through from the back of your garage. Read the
instructions several times and think about how you will perform each
operation
called for in the assembly process.
