If it is going to get really honking cold out, turn off the compressor,
lest it try to start up at 3 or 4 am when one of the fittings cracks in
the -10 degree temperatures, but can't because the oil in the compressor
case is the consistency of bearing grease. This results in the motor
basically burning up along with the belt, filling your garage with
smoke, which you will discover due to the horrible screaming of tortured
metal when you go out to start your car at 6:00am.
Just a hypothetical of course.
