MEASURING CYLINDER BORE TAPER:

Noticed a cylinder bore gauge -- Peacock brand (made in Japan)
2"-6" range for $180.00 in the latest Rutland sale catalog. Would
be nice, but also made wonder about other ways to measure for taper
and out of roundness?

Other thought was to use a set of telescopic gauges's, and then
use feeler gauges to check for any clearance.

Other suggestions?

Any comment of pro's & con's of either method?

COMPRESSOR TIP:

My trusty 20 yr old Sears 4hp air compressor failed me this weekend,
right when I needed to remove a front pulley nut. ;-(

First thought was the compressor had siezed (how long since I checked
the oil level?). Slipped the guard off, removed the belt... and it
was obvious the motor wasn't coming up to speed... time to replace
that starter capacitor! Oh, and change the oil. ;-)

Cheers,
