Rob ~
After thinking about this I remember that the bolts (carriage or
otherwise) go down thru the bottom of the engine cover plate and then
thru the motor mount. In the mount are two completely different bolts
that go thru the front cross member. So two bolts hold the motor mount
to the engine and then two other bolts hold the engine with the motor
mount to the cross member. That way there is the rubber cushion between
the engine and the cross member and no direct bolt from the engine to
the cross member. If you look in Chevy Duty's catalog page #67 at
part #79-005 and #79-006 you will see that the top shield has two holes
and two (dimples) indentures for the other two bolt heads. I think that
there are actually 4 holes in the cross member, two bigger ones that are
just for the ends of the bolts that hold the mount to the engine and the
other two to hold the mount and engine to the cross member.
Can anybody explain this any clearer?? HaHa

Oh yeah, forgot to add that this is replacing another 235, so I don't still
have the original engine, or that engine's cover plate. The engine it is
replacing, was done whereby I put the engine in, then drilled the holes from
under the truck, up thru the cover plate, then put the bolts in from the
bottom, so no carriage bolts.
I'm just hoping to be able to do all this BEFORE I put the engine in, and
not while sitting on my back...and the carriage bolts would be nice so I
don't have to mess with trying to get a wrench on the top bolt head...as I
recall, that isn't easy (I guess that is why Chevy used carriage bolts in
the first place)...and trying the square off the holes with the engine
sitting in the truck just won't work.
I don't want to have to put the engine into the engine bay (minus front
timing cover), just to measure, then have to pull it out, drill, then square
the holes, then put the timing cover on with carriage bolts in place, then
put the engine back in, and bolt everything together. I think I recall,
that the carrriage bolt(s?) have to be in their holes BEFORE the front
timing cover is bolted on, as there is interference between the bolt(s?) and
the cover (I want to think that only one of the two bolts is affected by the
interference).
