What was the temperature of the coolant coming *out* of a hard working
engine, if it was 175 when going in? 175 is about the temperature for a
thermostat on the *hot* side of the engine. I'd have said the temperature
of the coolant going in should be considerably less than that for two
reasons - one to be more efficient at picking up heat and two to control the
*maximum* heat in the engine rather the minimum.

Screw-in (3/8" NPT) sensor was mounted near bottom of the return side of a
Ron Davis cross-flow aluminum radiator; This sensor turned the fan on when
the water temperature reached approx 175 degrees F (Ignition on required);
Theory is to control the temperature of water entering the engine after it
has passed through the radiator;
