Thisd setup is used by Volkswagen ever since I have driven these since 1978.
Audi work in the same manner and I like it very much.
People should be carefull coming with their hands near the fans, as these 
may start at any moment when the engine is switched off!

Should not be much work to change the electrics though.
Beware to use an in line fuse for safety.
