I have a couple of questions
1. I finally yanked the springs off my rough-riding MG. I temporarily
replaced them with a set I bought on eBay for $10 but these are not exactly
the same height on both sides and I don9t plan to keep them on more than a
couple of weeks. (They are much better than the old ones, though the
difference between the old springs and the eBay springs is approximately
1-1/42 in height). What I am wondering is whether I9m better off having the
old springs re-arched or should I buy a set of new ones from Moss? Moss
notes that their new springs are 3not of the same Design2 as the originals,
whatever that means. There is a shop near hear that can rearch them quite
reasonably.
2. I broke the two Christmas-tree-shaped brake hold-down springs on one side
of the TF and have new ones coming. Is there any trick to putting these in?
It seems like they push in at the center and go into little holes on tabs
attached to the brake backing plate. Do they have to go in in a certain
direction?
3. I have heard that the distributor in an XPAG engine can go in in "any
position." My distributor is in such a position that I cannot remove the
spring clips that hold the cap on because one spring clip is too close to
the road drfat tube that comes out of the side cover. So how do I rotate the
distributor so that one of the flat sides of the cap is parallel to the
engine block?
4. Finally, we just put new tie rod ends on both the TD and TF and we
noticed that the right-hand swivel axle on the TD is bent. The piece that is
bent is the 3arm2 that extends forward to the tie rod end. I guess it has
been this way since I got the car. Here I am also wondewring if I should buy
a replacement from Moss, or is it better to look for an undamaged original?
