Well, I have been known to over-engineer a few things. But then, I also need to
find projects to justify that Tig I bought.
The problem with cutting off the top and rethreading is that the lever taper
gets thicker pretty quickly as you take off the top. Then it's too big for the
die, and you would have to have some way to remove the excess stock before you
could thread it.
I shortened it above the bend (on a '66 Sprite) in part because the taper was
less pronounced there. I also took out 1.5 inch. 3/4 would have been barely
enough to make a difference, at least for me. I wish I had cut it down even
more, maybe 2.5 inches. I plan to do it again. Watch ebay for the leftovers!
