Should be a screw or clip under the rotor. Removing the trigger plate will
reveal the springs and weights, unhook the springs (can be fiddly, watch they
don't fly away or get stretched) after removing the screw or clip and the top
half should just lift of - assuming the two halves of the shaft haven't seized
together, which disables the centrifugal advance. On reassembly you should be
aware that the two halves of the shaft can be assembled in either of two
positions, get it wrong and the distributor would have to be fitted 180
degrees adrift from its normal position for the car to run, so before
refitting the springs and points plate do a trial fit to make sure the
distributor still has the rotor arm pointing to about 2 o'clock when No.1
piston is at TDC on its compression stroke. Or make careful note where the
notch in the shaft for the rotor arm is before disassembly.

Oh, I didn't realize just the top half could be replaced. How do you
separate the two shafts? I think points would be a good troubleshooting
option.
