Does anyone have pointers to _QUANTITATIVE_ data on the effect of
different treatments of steel?
I'm aware that cryo treating gives a smaller grain size than heat
treating, and that nitriding is only skin deep. I haven't had anyone
point me to any quatitative data on the changes in strength or failure
rate from the different techniques.
I also don't know how much a stock crank needs to be strengthened for
various conditions. How over, or under, engineered is it?

Girling is not a verb.
