Thanks for all the replies to my query about the faintly glowing ignition
light. Especially thanks to Paul Hunt and John Boehmke who suggested that
I might be missing a brown wire between the alternator and the solenoid.
Placing a clip-on jumber connector between those two sites apparently
corrected the problem................until the next visit from Lord
Lucas.
I found the connections for the backup switch where other listers
suggested near the starter and connecting my new wires from the backup
switch to these (a green and a green/brown) lit up ONE of my backup
lights at least for the first time since owning the car.
Next, would anyone be willing to give a simple explanation on how to hook
up an ammeter and a voltmeter on a later than 1970 car? I can't stand not
knowing the status of my battery and charging system.
