Paul,
Seems that nothing is ever quite as simple as one would wish.
Last spring, the wobble in the distrib shaft was so great that dwell
was swinging +/- 5 degrees off the specified 60 degrees. I ordered a new
bushing. New bushing was tapered on the outside and tapered on the
inside, so my machinist felt that it would be better to not use the new
one (need a $40 piece of bronze?) but to remove, invert and reinstall the
old one. Which he did. Wobble was gone. 5,000 miles later, the dwell is
swinging +/- 2 degrees. Installing the Pertronix before cold weather set
in seemed reasonable, and simple.
There are those who accuse me of an unreasonable dislike of things
electronic. Why that should be so, I can't imagine. But then I've never
had wind-up windows, or manual sunroof, or hand-operated tire pump, or a
pull-string doorbell go bad on me. What I may need is a hydraulic
ignition system.
