Thanks for your reply. Yes, it was steady with the points. They worked
fine, but the distributor shaft bearing has some wear and the Pertronix
is said to overcome a bit of shaft wobble.
The Pertronix has just two wires. It mounts on a new plate that
replaces the plate on which points and condensor mount. The two wires
pass through a new rubber grommet, then the red goes to 12 source and
black to the coil negative connector. The connections are all tight and
appear to be in good order. .
