A dictionary of slang - "D" - Slang and colloquialisms of the UK.
...doddle Noun. An easy task. {Informal}.
Get the shims from an MG parts supplier and ignore claims of 'you don't need
them' from anyone else, "You do in an MG" to mis-quote a well known phrase
or saying. The inners and the races will fall out on the ground, the outers
are driven into the hub but a drift and a light hammer should be all that is
necessary to remove them, and the old outer (to ensure it goes in square)
and hammer to insert new ones. IME the old shims have been correct for the
new bearings as the latter are very high precision items, but YMMV so have
some spares handy. See http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk and click on 'Spanners'
and 'Hubs' for my take on the full story.
